About Robert Burns Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759, in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland.His parents were William Burnes, and Agnes Broun, Burns being the eldest child out of seven children. Both his parents came from farming backgrounds and were farmers as well.Robert Burns, among his siblings, was taught by his father, his other teacher was John Murdoch, who taught Robert Burns, Mathematics, French, and Latin. His father taught him writing, reading, history, arithmetic, and geography. Burns also attended Dalrymple Parish School.Robert Burns for the majority of the time worked as a farmhand, and he also worked as a flax-dresser (a hackler who separates grains from flax by using a hackle). An accident happened at the shop where Robert Burns worked and he had to leave. Burns then met Captain Richard Brown, who inspired Robert Burns to become a poet.Burns then decided to release and publish his work, so he was acquainted with a printer in Kilmarnock (a large town in East Ayrshire, Scotland). Wilson published his Scotch Poems. In 1786, Burns’s work, ‘Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish dialect’, was also known as the Kilmarnock volume. Later, Robert Burns met a music seller, James Johnson, and Burns significantly contributed to ‘The Scots Musical Museum’.
