In about 10 years, Star had gone from being just a law clerk to finally gaining a seat on the United State Court of Appeals for the District of Colombia Circuit in 1983, becoming a federal judge. Following his resignation in 1989, Starr would go on to become the U.S. Solicitor General under President George Bush from 1989-1993.In 1994, Starr was appointed as an independent counsel to continue the Whitewater Investigation. This appointment had Starr carrying out a number of investigations on the Bill Clinton administration. One of the investigations carried out included the investigation of Vince Foster’s death, the result of which was released and soon dubbed the ‘Starr Report’.Ken Starr would go on to take charge of several other investigations including the Paula Jones lawsuit, potential misuse of confidential FBI files, the Rose Law Firm, and the firing of some of the personnel of the White House Travel Office. Most notably, he was also in charge of the investigation of the Monica Lewinsky and President Bill Clinton investigation, an investigation that would later lead to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. In later years, Starr would come to have regrets about being assigned to the investigation of President Bill Clinton, stating that the one thing that could have been done differently in that investigation that would have made a real difference was for the case to have been assigned to someone else.After his time as an independent counsel, Starr resigned and began working as a visiting professor at various universities like the George Mason University School of Law, New York University, and Champion University Law School. He also returned to private practice around the same time and worked as an appellate lawyer. He also continued working as a partner at the American law firm Kirkland and Ellis, which he worked for during his Whitewater Investigation days.In the years following his return to the private practice, Ken Starr would go on to handle several cases including a supreme court hearing where he represented the school board of Juneau, the Proposition 8 post-election lawsuit, the defense of Jeffery Epstein, and the defense of President Donald Trump during his Senate impeachment trial in 2020. Ken would succeed in winning the supreme court case, as well as many others.Apart from his accomplishments in the legal sector, Ken Starr is also a successful academician. In 2010, Starr was appointed as the University President for Baylor University. At the time, he was already the Dean and Professor of Law at Pepperdine University.
