On his continuous visits to the UK, he published his books ‘The Battle Of The Books’ and ‘The Tale Of A Tub’.This is where he got involved in political matters. He first supported the Whigs and the Tory government who came into power. Swift worked as the editor of their newspaper, The Examiner. The Tory government fell and Swift assumed he’d get a good job, but he was gravely mistaken. He returned to Dublin with a post as the Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a position he held for 32 years. He became a true patriot during this time. His works included ‘The Modest Proposal’, ‘A Discourse On The Contests And Dissensions In Athens And Rome’, and ‘Proposal For Universal Use Of Irish Manufacture’.Jonathan Swift also started writing ‘Travels Into Several Remote Nations Of The World’, a satire on the political troubles at the time.
