About Hideo Nomo Hideo Nomo is a former right-handed Japanese pitcher who played Nippon Professional Baseball and Major League Baseball (MLB).On August 31, 1968, Hideo Nomo was born in Osaka, Japan. Nomo gained early success in his native country, where he was the pitcher for the Kintetsu Buffaloes of the Nippon Professional Baseball league from 1990-1994.Initially, Hideo Nomo was not drafted to the Nippon Professional Baseball league due to pitching control issues. Then, the Kintetsu Buffaloes drafted him in 1989, where he played for them for four years. Following this, Nomo found a loophole to exit the contract with the Buffaloes to play for the Major League in the United States. In 1995, he became the first-ever Japanese major leaguer who was moved permanently to Major League Baseball by playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite not being the first Japanese player in American professional baseball, Nomo is usually given credit for paving the way for Japanese players in MLB.He pitched for eight teams throughout his career, including the Kintetsu Buffaloes, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, and Kansas City Royals.
