Henry Akinwande defeated another Nigerian and future WBO heavyweight champion, Herbie Hide. Akinwande was in the heavyweight group at the Olympic Games held in Seoul, South Korea, in 1988, where he represented Great Britain.Henry Akinwande’s pro boxing debut was in the fight against Carlton Headley in 1989, which was held in London. Following his debut fight, Akinwande went ahead to record consecutive wins in his first 18 bouts. Among his 18 wins was a knockout victory over J.B. Williamson, in the second round.
