Jones was earlier a member of The Desideros before joining the Chi-Lites.By early 1964, Jones and his group decided to change their name to The Hi-Lites from The Chi-Lites. Under the name, The Hi-Lites, the group had recorded the song ‘I’m So Jealous’, with Eugene Record on lead vocals. However, they later realized that the name was already in use and decided to change it back to The Chi-Lites. Jones, along with his group, went on to record the song ‘Pretty Girl’, again with Record as the lead singer. Jones is also known for being a talented songwriter, especially for the song, ‘Love Bandit’.The group met Carl Davis, a renowned record producer, in 1968, to sign a contract out of Chicago with Brunswick. The Chi-Lites produced their major hits around 1971-1972 with the songs ‘Have You Seen Her’ and ‘Oh Girl’. However, in 1973, Jones left the group and was replaced by Stanley Anderson. Later the group also waved goodbye to another one of their precious members, Eugene Record, who was replaced by Danny Johnson and David Scott.Jones, along with Thompson and Lester, regrouped in 1980, with Lester as the lead singer. However, Jones again moved out of the group and the group remained as a trio. The group then went on to release one of their most critically acclaimed albums, ‘Bottoms Up’, which achieved huge chart success with the album’s title track.
